Other: Hywel Dda University Health Board

Mrs O complained that Hywel Dda University Health Board (“the Health Board”) failed to provide adequate support and care to her daughter, L, from 2018 up until her death on 27 July 2020.

The Ombudsman found that L received adequate support and care during the period in question. The Continuing Care package in place was appropriate for L’s needs and regular reviews of the care and support she needed were undertaken by the Health Board and other professionals as and when L’s condition altered. The complaint was not upheld.

The Ombudsman did however, recognise that the Health Board could have improved its communication with Mrs O in relation to its considerations of her request for 2 night-time carers. Although this element of the complaint was not upheld, the Health Board was invited to consider its poor communication and how it could have been improved.
