Non-public interest report issued: complaint not upheld
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
Mrs A complained that Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (“the Health Board”) failed to appropriately manage the surgical wound to her left leg following a post-operative review at the 6 week stage (including the inappropriate use of a Jelonet dressing), which subsequently caused a significant delay in the healing process.
The Ombudsman found that it was reasonable for a Jelonet dressing to have been used on Mrs A’s leg wound and that the use of this dressing at the 6 week post-operative review was not the cause of the protracted and problematic wound healing that Mrs A unfortunately experienced. Overall, the Ombudsman concluded that there was no evidence that the problems Mrs A experienced with wound healing were due to any failings or deficiencies in the management of the wound. Mrs A was also referred to the Tissue Viability Nurse in a timely manner. As a result, the Ombudsman did not uphold the complaint.
